My work begins with a series of photographs and quick sketches with a critical eye for elegant gesture, posture, potential narrative …Susanna and the Elders, benedictions, David and Goliath, Isaac and Abraham, St. Lucy, or more simply , there is an outstretched hand.

I am compelled to build an altarpiece, create icons; there is a spiritual impetus…a need to elevate nephews and nieces, sons, and daughters by recasting them in a tangible material such as paint. For me paint is enchanted, it flickers, the colors pull, drawing me into a place of timelessness where those with whom I am most intimate come together thru intuitive direction and a make believe mending ensues. The narrative within my work is autobiographical, yet more generally suggests exploitation, insecurity, fear, power, compassion, gentleness, impending violence…
